The sources, review process and limitations behind TheyKnow’s research on disclosed congressional transactions.

Source coverage

The collection source currently verified for TheyKnow is the U.S. House Clerk’s financial disclosure site. Senate collection is not live. This describes the source scope, not a guarantee that every filing has been collected.

Coverage checked:

Reporting delay

For certain securities transactions over $1,000, House members, officers and certain employees must file by the earlier of 30 days after becoming aware of the transaction or 45 days after the transaction. A filing is retrospective; it does not reveal a trade as it happens. House Committee on Ethics

Start with the original filing

Read the official document alongside any summary. Distinguish the transaction date, filing date and collection time. Disclosed value ranges are not exact amounts; an unresolved company name is not a confirmed ticker.

Separate evidence from interpretation

A research draft must identify its supporting filing, distinguish observations from inference, and describe uncertainty. A staff reviewer checks the source and wording before approving member publication. Automated drafts and promotional videos have separate review gates.

Know the limits

Public disclosures arrive after transactions and may be amended, incomplete or difficult to parse. TheyKnow does not promise complete coverage or access to nonpublic trades. A disclosed purchase is not a recommendation to copy it, and past activity does not establish future performance.

Corrections belong in the record

If a source link, name, date or interpretation looks wrong, send the page URL and the supporting official document through the contact form. Research and marketing claims should be checked against the underlying record, not treated as a substitute for it.
